Design for a high-performance bike light with a replaceable Li-ion battery and tactile interaction (patented) inspired by volume controls on a sound system. Hence the name.

Brief/Challenge
The goal was to create an intuitive, analog-like interaction for riders to easily control light intensity in a satisfying, familiar way.
Working with the Bookman engineering team, we sought a better way to adjust power and switch between modes. Bike lights need different modes for varying road conditions, from daytime flashes and energy-saving eco modes to full power for dark rural roads. The usual small, stiff buttons or touch screens just don’t cut it—especially on a late, cold ride.
Our solution was the power knob—finally a simple, intuitive way to adjust brightness, just like changing the volume on a stereo. Apparently so innovative, this interaction became patented, setting a new standard for bike lights.
